SHS Cadet Teachers have been learning about literacy development and recently met with Librarian, Alex Donovan, at the Smithville Mid-Continent Public Library to learn about how reading out loud to children fosters essential skills like reading fluency, comprehension, and phonemic awareness.
The Cadet Teaching Program offers high school students hands-on experience in classrooms, allowing them to work with teachers, assist with lessons, and gain skills in communication and leadership. This program is designed to inspire future educators and build valuable, transferable skills.

🎨 Hands-on learning at its finest! Our 6th graders at Horizon Elementary are perfecting their skills and creating beautiful ceramic pieces. We can't wait to see the final results of these students’ hard work! #ssdpride

This Way Back When-sday, we’re featuring two teachers from 1990. The headline for this page stated "Practical Skills Prepare Students for the 90's". Who remembers these teachers?

Today, students and staff honored our veterans, not only those in the Smithville School District, but also those in active deployment and post-deployment. We are forever grateful for the ultimate sacrifice that these veterans have made.

Let's kick off the week by celebrating some amazing staff members!🎉
