"Mrs. Alwes has so much knowledge to share and our 1st graders are so lucky to have her as one of their leaders. Her teaching style is very engaging and she always finds a way to keep her students attention. She is an excellent problem solver and always steps in to help. She started as one of our permanent substitutes and now we are lucky to call her one of our own here at Horizon!"

"Mrs. Clegg goes above and beyond the call of duty. She is consistently working towards making her students and all students at Smithville High School be the best version of themselves. While striving to help students, her love to help adults is also very evident. She is quick to respond, chat, or provide a guiding hand when called upon. Mrs. Clegg does it all. We are so lucky to have her!"

"We are so grateful for the education, patience and creativity you bring to our school. You do more than teach technology-you open doors to curiosity, problem-solving and discovery. Your classroom is where challenges become opportunities and mistakes become lessons. Thank you for preparing our children for the future while making learning meaningful for today."

"Mrs. Matthews is very much enjoying being back as a teacher in pre-k! She diligently worked many hours over the summer getting her classroom ready for the school year. Her years of experience and her excitement to teach the youngest Warriors is evident as she welcomes the students to class each and every day. She finds fun and engaging ways for the students to learn. She looks for new activities and is attentive to the student's interests and needs. Her classroom management provides organization and structure to the daily routine. She is a capable and valuable staff member in Warrior Preschool and in our district!

Middle school students in Mrs. Boydston’s TA class worked together in a team-building dice game that encouraged collaboration and communication.🎲✨

Throwing it back to 1997, when a high school student sat backstage, getting his makeup applied before the curtain rose for the school play. Behind every great performance is a team of artists making the magic happen!
Does this student remind you of a coach from Smithville High School?

"Megan is a team player in every part of her day. Megan builds strong relationships with all the students she works with, and everyone is happy to see her walk into a room. Staff and students alike respect her and are happy to work with Megan. If she is asked to modify her schedule on a moment's notice or through a rough day with students, she does so with grace. She is always seeking out ways to keep herself busy in small moments of downtime. Megan is a strong team player, and our team would be lacking without her. She boosts the morale of those around her, and even on challenging days, she is a bright spot to bring back focus to the positive."

"This past summer, our classrooms in the blue hallway at Eagle Heights were scheduled to be painted. We were instructed to take everything off the walls and remove all materials from our rooms for maintenance to paint. Due to construction at the high school our maintenance crews were required to prioritize the work there. Mr. Orscheln took on the huge task of painting our classrooms because he knew how much time had gone in to making our rooms ready for painting. He did not want us to come back this school year without our rooms having a fresh coat of paint. We are grateful for his unselfishness and for going above and beyond to make sure our rooms were ready for students. He is truly an Ultimate Warrior and an Ultimate Leader at our school."

"As a dedicated coach, teacher, and mentor, Jake Butterworth has made a lasting impact not only through his professional roles, but also through the kind of person he is—a role model, a motivator, and a truly good human being. What sets him apart is the genuine heart he brings to everything he does. Whether he's coaching or in the classroom teaching, he consistently leads with compassion, humor, and unwavering integrity. Students, athletes, and colleagues alike look up to him—not just for his athletic knowledge or teaching expertise, but because he lives the values he encourages in others: respect, hard work, humility, and kindness. He has a natural gift for connecting with young people, and his sense of humor and positive energy make him both approachable and inspiring."

"Mr. Henry is a phenomenal staff member, is always helpful to his peers and his students, and brings a wealth and knowledge and experience to his role. He can be seen frequently at after school events of his students, bonding with his colleagues over lunch, or just having routine friendly interactions with his students. Rick Henry's consistency and reliability are what make him an Ultimate Warrior!"

"Kim is here for the kids, she works hard in getting to know the kids and builds good relationships with them. She will do whatever is asked of her, whether it is to help them with their work, support them in the classroom, helps with breakfast and after school duty. She has a positive attitude with her kids and celebrates their progress and accomplishments."

Thank you, Smithville community, for investing in our students, our schools, and our future. 💚
Strong Schools. Strong Community. Strong Future.
This week in Mrs. Crouch’s 5th grade science class, students dove into the fascinating world of physical changes—starting with something as simple as an ice cube.❄ Students observed firsthand what happens when an ice cube changes from a solid to a liquid. Through hands-on experiments and guided discussion, they learned how melting and freezing are physical changes.🧪

"Ms. Leary always puts students and staff first! She looks for ways to make sure teachers have what they need to be effective instructors and helps create ways for students to succeed in the classroom. When issues arise, she’s quick to step in with solutions and communicates clearly with everyone involved."

"Mrs. Callahan is an incredible teacher because she empowers her students with agency and helps them take ownership of their learning. In her classroom, students feel like they belong to a close-knit family where kindness, respect, and love for one another shine every day. She creates a space where children not only grow academically but also learn to support, encourage, and celebrate each other."

"Sarah Christus consistently demonstrates kindness, thoughtfulness, and a genuine sense of empathy toward others. She models interactions with a friendly and respectful demeanor, making students feel valued and included. Beyond simply being a positive presence, Sarah is an advocate—for peers who need support, for students who need extra help, and for maintaining a classroom culture rooted in mutual respect. While learning new content to teach, she also provides students a club to explore their creative sides. She is a great asset to the Middle School!"
