Work continues on the construction projects from the April 2023 No-Tax Rate Increase General Obligation Bond at Smithville School District. Thank you voters for supporting these improvements!
- Sidewalk improvements continue to progress throughout the main campus of the Smithville School District. Sidewalk improvements on campus are anticipated to be complete before the start of the 2023-2024 school year. Some have asked why the sidewalks are so curvy, this is for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance. The City of Smithville has a future Commercial Ave. sidewalk project to tie into our campus sidewalk system.
- Removal of the Smithville High School gymnasium mezzanine walls is complete. For safety purposes, a temporary wall will be installed in this opening until bleachers with more seating are installed in the summer of 2024. The new bleachers will allow for approximately 500 more seats in the gymnasium, which will increase our capacity by 50%. Also in the summer of 2024, the stage will be renovated into a multi-purpose space.
- With project bids for the gymnasium coming in lower than anticipated, the District is able to add the renovation of the gymnasium restrooms, which is a much needed and requested project. If you have been in the high school for an event or a ball game, you can recall the half-wall stalls! These will be replaced with updated facilities, which will allow for privacy and functionality.
- Dirt work has started on the site where the SSD transportation facility will be built (intersection of Hwy 92 and the Horizon drive). The transportation facility is anticipated to be complete prior to the 2024-2025 school year.
- The installation of the new HVAC units at Smithville Middle School and Horizon Elementary School is complete. The units are now being programmed to run effectively and efficiently.
