SUBSTITUTE OPPORTUNITIES

Substitute teachers are a vital part of the Smithville School District and we value the contributions you make. It is your involvement and availability that enables our programs to continue. Smithville School District employs substitute teachers to assist in the absence of regular classroom teachers, school nurses, and instructional assistants.

Pay Schedule:  The substitute pay rate is $135.00 per day when subbing for either certified teachers or non-certified personnel. The substitute pay rate for school nurses is $120.00 per day. The retired teacher substitute pay rate is $141.00 per day for certified teachers and non-certified personnel. A long-term substitute teacher for a certified teacher will receive an increase in pay to $200.00 on the 11th day after substituting ten consecutive days for the same teacher, and the pay increases to $140.00 for non-certified personnel on the 11th day. An incentive bonus of $20.00 per day will be applied to any regular or permanent substitute teacher (long-term substitutes are excluded) that substitutes more than 5 times during a two-week pay period. All substitute positions will be limited to 130 full days.

Requirements: To become a substitute teacher, you must meet one of the following requirements: either have at least 36 college credit hours or complete an online training. Additionally, you will need a substitute certificate from DESE and must attend a substitute teaching orientation.
