STAFF INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION

The Smithville School District prioritizes the safety of all students and staff during inclement weather events while striving to minimize disruptions to learning. When weather conditions or other unexpected short-term events make in-person attendance unsafe, the district may implement one of the options below.

Smithville School District Inclement Weather Plan - Staff

What does this mean for staff?


Inclement Weather Day - 

NO SCHOOL

  • Tier 1 - Campus Closed

  • Critical personnel* do not report to work.

  • 12-month employees work remotely.

  • Less than 12-month employees do not report to work.

  • Innovation Learning will not be available on inclement weather days.

Inclement Weather Day - 

NO SCHOOL

  • Tier 2 - No In-Person School/12-month Employees Remote Work Option

  • Critical personnel* report to work.

  • 12-month employees work remotely.

  • Less than 12-month employees do not report to work.

  • Innovation Learning will not be available on inclement weather days.

Inclement Weather Day - 

NO SCHOOL

  • Tier 3 - No In-Person School/12-month Employees Work In-Person

  • Critical personnel* report to work.

  • 12-month employees report to work.

  • Less than 12-month employees do not report to work.

  • Innovation Learning will not be available on inclement weather days.

Inclement Weather Day - 

AMI (Alternative Method of Instruction)


  • All schools will implement AMI (Alternative Method of Instruction) Day Plan.

  • 12-month employees will report based on the designated Tier (1, 2, or 3).

  • Less than 12-month employees follow the AMI Plan - Elementary / Secondary.

  • Innovation Learning will not be available on inclement weather days.

2-Hour Late Start

  • Critical personnel* report to work at their regularly scheduled time.

  • 12-month employees report to work at their regularly scheduled time.

  • Less than 12-month employees report two hours later than usual (e.g. a 7:00 a.m. start becomes 9:00 a.m.) and dismiss at their regular time. 

  • Innovation Learning will open at 7:00 a.m. at all sites; this will be included in any inclement weather announcements.

*Critical personnel include maintenance and custodial.

The first inclement weather day will be forgiven.  Up to five additional inclement weather days will utilize AMI-Alternate Method of Instruction.  If there are more than six inclement weather days, the additional days may need to be made up.  This could extend the last day of school.
