In April 2023, Smithville voters approved a No Tax Rate Increase Bond Initiative totaling approximately $17.5 million to enhance district facilities and infrastructure. These projects have significantly improved safety, accessibility, and functionality across our schools.
Key projects completed through this bond initiative include:
✔ New On-Site Transportation & Maintenance Facility – Prior to this project, the District did not have a dedicated transportation facility. The construction of this new facility improves efficiency for bus routes and trips, allowing for better coordination and maintenance of our fleet. Additionally, having an on-site facility enhances driver recruitment and provides dedicated training opportunities, ensuring safe and reliable transportation for our students. This investment supports the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of our transportation services.
✔ Sidewalk Improvements on Main Campus – This has enhanced safety and accessibility for students and staff.
✔ HVAC Upgrades at Horizon Elementary and Smithville Middle School – Enhancing energy efficiency and providing a more comfortable learning environment for students and staff year-round.
✔ Security Enhancements at All Buildings – Improved camera-systems and additional measures that strengthen safety and security districtwide.
✔ Synthetic Turf for the Middle School Athletic Field – Transitioning to turf has expanded opportunities for physical education, practices, and competitions across various activities, providing a reliable playing surface for students year-round.
✔ High School Gym Remodel – Expanded seating capacity better accommodates events and spectators. Additionally, the stage has been remodeled into a versatile multi-purpose space, providing new opportunities for classes, clubs, and teams to utilize for practices, meetings, and performances.
