Smithville Middle School -

The cheer squad is a combined 7th and 8th grade program. Each participant must try-out to become a member. Try-outs are held in the preceding spring of each school year. Practices are held weekly throughout the summer. Each cheerleader is strongly encouraged to attend a summer cheer camp that is put on locally for the participants. The cheer squad cheers for all middle school home football and basketball games. Therefore the cheer season lasts through the end of January.  

Practices are held in appropriate middle school facilities which may include the middle school gym, commons, football stadium, outside, etc. Locations of all practices will be communicated. The squad will cheer at the Smithville Football Stadium and the Smithville Middle School Gym.  

The cheerleaders are responsible for getting a MSHSAA sanctioned physical before they try-out for the squad. In addition, there is a cost that accompanies participation in cheer. Participants are required by MSHSAA to have matching uniforms for all functions. Therefore, shoes and other uniform necessities may be required to be purchased. However, the main uniforms are provided by the school. All participants need to fulfill the academic eligibility requirements set forth by MSHSAA and the Smithville School District. Lastly, all cheerleaders are required to have 14 practices before they can cheer during a MSHSAA sanctioned event.
