On Saturday, October 30th, the Missouri Class 4 District 4 cross country race was held at Lee’s Summit North High School. Adjustments were made this season to how athletes would qualify for the state meet. Instead of eight district races, there were only four this season. Instead of 15 individuals and the top 2 teams qualifying, now the top 30 individuals and top 4 teams would qualify for state.
Lee’s Summit North’s cross country course has a reputation of being “fast” as it is very flat. However, after days of rain, the course was anything but fast due to the wet, soggy conditions. While the conditions were not ideal, teams lined up to compete for their chance to race at the state championship.
The Smithville boys team qualified for state finishing second overall with all seven boys finishing in the top 30 spots: Asa Kellner, Isaac Edson, Liam Adair, Carter Massie, Quentin Zimmer, Regan Dunn, Braxton Hays. The Smithville girls team landed 5th overall with three girls individually qualifying for state: Naomi Hunter, Bailey Cutler, and Avery Bannwarth.
