MAP Testing Dates

MAP TESTING

Dear Parents,

Now that April is approaching and spring is here, our students will begin to participate in the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP). The MAP assesses student performance and knowledge in various grade levels and content areas. In addition, this state assessment provides educators with important data that is used to improve upon instructional practices. Smithville Middle School teachers have been preparing our students throughout the school year for the MAP test not only with the various content areas but also with test taking strategies and practices.

Our 6th– 8th graders will be taking the MAP test throughout the month of April following the schedule below:

  • Grade 6A (Schirmer, Watt, Doubenmier, Schroeder, Krohn): April 5th—Math, April 6th—ELA.
  • Grade 6B (Hedrick, Cline, DeYoung, Herndon, Weis): April 11th—ELA, April 12th—Math.
  • Grade 7A (Bosley, Cherise, Johnson, Flieg, R. Parker): April 11th—Math, April 12th--ELA
  • Grade 7B (Hellner, Krohn, Baber): April 18th—ELA, April 19th--Math
  • Grade 8A (Wilcox, Pieper, Holt, Heffley): April 18th—Math, April 19th—ELA, April 20th—ELA, April 21st—Science.
  • Grade 8B (Kratofil, C. Krueger, Baber, Beasley): April 24th—Math, April 25th—ELA, April 26th—ELA, April 27th—Science.

Parents are an integral part of student success in testing and school achievement. As we enter into this testing period, the school is encouraging the parents to help us cultivate a positive testing atmosphere that will foster student achievement.

To nurture this partnership and help ensure that students have every opportunity to do their best on these tests, we are asking for the following parental support:

  • encourage your student to get plenty of rest,
  • offer nutritious breakfasts during the testing period,
  • help your child relax,
  • converse with your student about the tests,
  • make sure your student arrives to school on time because testing will begin promptly at 8:30 am, and strongly encourage attendance during your child’s testing days. All missed tests are mandated to be made up.
  • encourage your students to be cooperative with their cell phones and electronic devices. The State of Missouri does not allow students to be in possession of cell phones during testing. Our teachers will be asking the students to place their devices in a protected area during testing.
  • be positive about the test. - Tell your child you know that they will do well! Let your child know that you understand how difficult tests can be, but you have confidence in him/her that he/she will try their very best! Remind your student that you’ll be proud of them for putting forth their best effort.

Thank you for your full support and cooperation during this testing period and important time of the year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school or myself.

Sincerely,

Tod A. Winterboer

Smithville Middle School Principal
